Zona Spirit
Photos taken by: Aya Shoura
On a normal day the UA mall is a spot that may be scattered with loungers or frisbee players. Game day, on the other hand, is a whole different atmosphere. Tailgates, students and alumni, and Arizona red is all thats's in site. As time passes on the mall, the scenarios also change. As the game approaches, more people with Arizona pride accumulate. The long green Mall turns into a clustered Red Sea.
Class Time Motion
Photos taken by: Nathaniel Drake
The collage of the lecture hall for ARE130 empty and another photo of it just after class has been dismissed illustrates the theme of time because it shows a peaceful environment at one point in time and then a rather hectic and fast moving environment in the same location at a different time.
Passerby
Photos take by: Preston McFarland.
On a typical week day during classes the mall is filled with bikes, skateboarders, and people dodging all the above. As many students know, walking to class across this pathway is quite a feat. However as the campus population dwindles as the day progresses, this pathway is dead. Time as well as motion is depicted because of the hurried motion of bikers and walkers of the busy overlaid image.

Right Place, Right Time
These images explore the idea of time by showing how the same
location can look very different at different times of day. In the post
"Zona Spirit," the image of the mall with almost no one around is
covered by a partially transparent picture of the mall during game day.
The resulting collage displays the difference in atmosphere between the
empty mall and the lively mall covered with tailgaters and fans.
Similarly, the post "Passerby" has an image near Old Main when
almost no one is around overlapped with an image of the same location between
classes, when the campus is alive and people are hurrying from place to place.
Finally, the post "Class Time Motion" has an image of the
lecture hall for ARE130 30 minutes before class when there are very few students
overlapped with a partially transparent picture of the same lecture hall when
class has just been dismissed. While the first image, like in the others,
is quiet and peaceful, the overlapping image depicts motion
and liveliness.
The purpose of these posts is to show the
influence time has on this world. It is entirely beyond our control yet
it affects when we do things and how the world appears to us. If a
visitor to the UA mall saw the picture of when hardly anyone was around, they
would have a very different perception of the location than if another visitor
saw the UA mall two hours before kickoff. By merging the two pictures of
the same location at different times, this blog highlights the stark contrast
between an empty location and a lively atmosphere, but also shows the areas in
between as nothing in the combined images is completely clear.
